In 1925, members of the Kalamazoo community came together to form a philanthropic organization dedicated to the enrichment of greater Kalamazoo and its people. Designed to bring the tools and finances for success together with the people and non-profit organizations that need them in the most effective way, the Kalamazoo Community Foundation utilizes resources from within the community and abroad to increase the standards of living, culture, and education for the people it serves.
Thanks to the monetary and moral support of the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, The Geek Group has been able to run workshops on topics ranging from the aerodynamics of the paper airplane and rocketry for beginners to aromatherapy and exotic animals. Through these classes, students are able to build on existing knowledge bases and explore new subjects during the spring and summer months, a time when the danger of educational atrophy is at its highest. Because many sessions are designed for all ages, families have the opportunities to learn together and enhance the bonds they share through exciting new discoveries. Without the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, none of these fun, unique, and off the wall opportunities would have been possible and for that, they have our most sincere thanks.
