A relatively new player in the Kalamazoo educational scene, Kalamazoo Valley Community College came into being following a public vote in 1968 and has been serving the community through a variety of two-year programs designed to give students a work-ready skill set. Spanning two campuses and more than 200 sprawling acres in Kalamazoo County, including the recently established Center for New Media in the downtown Arcadia Campus, KVCC has been a leader in progressive, practical education since its inception. In addition to their work to further higher education, KVCC has been instrumental in the field of archivy and Kalamazoo historical preservation through the efforts of the Kalamazoo Valley Museum.
The same vigor with which KVCC pours knowledge into the minds of its students can be found in the generosity KVCC has poured into The Geek Group through donations of much needed equipment. Without the copiers, printers, monitors, and computers KVCC provided The Geek Group, many of the community outreach programs The Group runs, such as free computers for low income families, would not have the resources to make a difference in the lives of Kalamazoo County’s most technologically underprivileged populations. In addition to helping The Geek Group help others, many of the items donated by KVCC have become vital tools for running the office, building server racks, and teaching computer skills to students of all ages. For all the wonderful things you have given us the ability to do, KVCC, we thank you.
