When the Geek Group moved into the Leonard Street Lab facilities in December of 2010, one of the most immediate projects that presented itself was removing the Rock Maple flooring that was in the old basketball court, which is now the Main Demonstration Hall. The maple was pretty fantastic- MFMA Grade AA Rock Maple, as good as it gets for one of Michigan’s most famous trees. Harvested in  1975, this wood has a growth and grain that is not so common anymore. It is the centrepiece of this awesome pen.

Then pen works in an extremely unusual way- through bolt action! It is extremely sturdy with an easily replaceable cartridge.

The top and tip of the pen both have the sleek look of a 30 calibre bullet and the pen clip has a rifle clip. It is a most unusual design that from afar looks like a beautiful modern design for a pen and up close reveals it likes to rock.

This is a fun exercise in modern design.

It is about 6″x9″x.75″ and made for holding keychains, or other small items such as necklaces.

The core is made from recycled plywood (from The Geek Group’s old gym floor at the Leonard Street Labs) and the other layer is a veneer of a fine, exotic wood that has been submersion dyed a very bold red.

It has accents of copper and three hooks on the bottom. The back has a keyhole that allows for easy leveling and easy hanging. It will hang flush with the wall for a truly sleek look.
