When the Geek Group moved into the Leonard Street Lab facilities in December of 2010, one of the most immediate projects that presented itself was removing the Rock Maple flooring that was in the old basketball court, which is now the Main Demonstration Hall. The maple was pretty fantastic- MFMA Grade AA Rock Maple, as good as it gets for one of Michigan’s most famous trees. Harvested in 1975, this wood has a growth and grain that is not so common anymore.
We are excited to be able to present these pens, which have been turned from that Rock Maple flooring. Each pen is about six inches long and uses a replaceable ink cartridge, ensuring that it will last many years. It has a heavy, comfortable fit for jotting either short notes or for penning hours at a time.
The pens are made in a variety of colors and tints- we try to pair them to make a smashing combination. It has a natural finish so that the pen still looks and feels like real wood- it has been sealed with several coats of polyurethane to give it a sealing layer.
There is no shipping fee on these pens, anywhere in the world. You will receive a pen of our choice in a protective bag, along with a letter explaining the origin of the wood and purpose of the pen- perfect for giving somebody a gift they will both enjoy having and enjoy supporting!
